Prayagraj: There was a flood of faith at the bathing festival of Makar Sankranti in Prayagraj. Devotees started arriving at Sangam and surrounding ghats from early Tuesday morning. The weather remained clear, and due to the absence of fog, people did not face any problems in bathing. People from different parts of the country earned virtue by taking a dip in the Sangam.
According to people associated with the administration, by seven in the morning, about two lakh devotees had taken baths in the Sangam. However, official figures will be released later. As the day progresses, the crowd is expected to increase further.
Police and administration teams were deployed at Sangam and other ghats to manage the crowd. Barricading was done at different places, and people were being sent in queues to take baths. The officers themselves remained present at the Sangam nose and kept giving instructions from time to time to vacate the ghat so that order could be maintained.
As soon as the darkness ended and the first rays of the sun appeared, the enthusiasm of the people present on the ghats increased further. Many devotees were seen offering water to the Sun God. People kept taking a dip in the Sangam amidst the chants of “Om Suryay Namah.” The whole atmosphere became devotional.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, a large number of people from states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Maharashtra have also reached Prayagraj. Many families had reached the city late at night so that they could take a bath early in the morning.
The administration was trying to ensure that there is no chaos and people can take baths safely. The crowd was constantly moved forward and no one was allowed to stay on the ghat for long.
The administration estimates that the number of devotees will increase as the day progresses. In such a situation, special attention is being kept on security arrangements and traffic. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Sangam once again became a big center of faith, discipline and devotion, where faith and hope were clearly visible on every face.
